Conewango Creek: 2015 PA River of the Year

In October 2014, Conewango Creek Watershed Association (CCWA) nominated Conewango Creek for River of the Year. The waterway needed to have a group or groups that were actively working to improve the creek and the creek had to have shown improvement. The second step was an online voting process whereby anyone with an email address could vote. Volunteers of CCWA worked hard for 6 weeks to get the word out and ask people to vote from all over our region. On Jan 6, 2015 the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds and Rivers and PA-Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources announced that Conewango Creek won the vote with 42% of the just under 10,000 votes recorded during the 4 week voting period. As a result of winning the contest, Conewango Creek will have a poster printed featuring the creek distributed statewide and received a $10,000 grant to hold a year's worth of celebratory events and activities. This supplemental website is dedicated to making it easier for the public to register for these events. n
